Throughout these past few weeks, I have been so hard on myself and have really struggled with self-doubt. It can be a tough obstacle to overcome, and I think every dancer struggles with this at some point and time in their life.
You spend so much time looking at all of your imperfections and weak points, that you don’t even see your strengths anymore! This is a phase that you just need to keep pushing though and working hard despite of the negative thoughts. You need to remember that you ARE great, and you ARE special in your own way; just because you don’t have the flexibility or extension of the person next to you doesn’t make you a bad dancer! Those things should give you goals to work harder for, not make you feel discouraged. There will always be someone better than you, but that should only motivate you to keep striving to reach them! Keep this in mind next time you are in the studio… Negativity is extremely contagious. Hopefully you can recognize this “fast spreading virus” early so that it doesn’t reach you, but when it does: keep these thoughts strong in your mind, and try your hardest to avoid infecting someone else.
