Poetic Thoughts

once upon a sunset

once upon a sunset

the world is set aglow

filled with things that use to be

and things we have yet

to know

Poetic Thoughts

the moment I was found

I took my heart to the forest,
And felt its strong embrace
As the winter snow glistened
Softly falling upon my face

I was a lost wanderer
Lonely and alone
Until the forest found me
And guided me back home

The trees conversed together
Gently whispering my name
And when I really listened
Something within me changed

I took my heart to the forest
And with each passing sound
I realised I was never lost
The moment I was found

Poetic Thoughts

December’s last breath

a final exhale

drifts off in the wind

scattering memories like ashes

to be visited once again

the blue sky fades away

and everything becomes new

another year is born

from December’s last breath

The new year is on its way, and I think most of us can agree that leaving 2020 behind is quite a relief. Looking back, it is astounding how much can change in a matter of months, weeks, and even a day. To be honest, I learned more this year than I ever imagined, but I grew so much stronger through every fear, uncertainty, hurt, and disappointment. Although it is easy to focus on everything that went wrong, it is important to remember all the things that went right like welcoming my baby brother into the world, moving to a beautiful new house, graduating high school, and attending a university honor’s program. Overall, I feel like this year helped me become a better version of myself, and I am grateful for all of the things that I learned despite the hard times.

One of my resolutions for 2021 is making the conscious effort to write more even if it is only once a week or so. I do not intend to force words on a page, but I know that reminding myself to frequently write (even in a personal journal) will help me become more in sync with my thoughts and emotions…Writing always use to be the thing that I would revert to when things got hard, but I definitely didn’t do that this year which only made things harder. Nonetheless, I want to continue to improve my writing, so I think becoming more active is a great resolution.

That being said, I wrote a little free verse poem in honor of the coming year that I hope you find enjoyable… Here is to new beginnings, and a Happy New Year!

Poetic Thoughts

secret messages

sky

unspoken thoughts

float on paper wings

carried by the wind

softly glowing

secret messages

paint the sky

embers burn

as the heart flies

what could be

what should be

what would be

what is

you will never know

writing secret messages

Did you enjoy this? What are your thoughts? Would you like to see more poetry? Thanks for reading!

Poetic Thoughts

beach glass

beachglass

in my hand I hold a story

washed away by the sands of time

a fragment of the past

beaten and forgotten

stripped from depths that never saw the light

lost among the wreckage

of a perilous journey for years

it somehow found its way to me

but I cannot retell its tale

for its origins are still a mystery

forever lost under the waves

through all the uncertainty,

I know that I am holding

a connection to the past

a beautiful piece of beach glass

I recently took a walk along the shore and recovered a few pieces of beach glass that inspired me to write this. I began to wonder if they are a hundred year old remains from a shipwreck or simply a bottle that fell overboard… They could be anything, and the possibilities seemed endless. I think it is amazing to consider the story behind something so simple, and the history of something in my hand. What are your thoughts on this?

Poetic Thoughts

my old friend

autumn2019

Autumn,

I have awaited your arrival since the start of September.

Upon your return, you bring soft hues

that warm my soul through the chill of October.

There is so much to tell you, and a lot on my mind.

The leaves are falling as am I.

Acoustics drift through the silence

as cider steams from my hand.

On the porch, I have been waiting for you.

Hello, my old friend.

Just a little bit of free verse this morning to welcome my favorite season… What are your thoughts on Autumn? Did you enjoy this post? Happy Fall!
