Redemption

flight

I stood backstage staring at the vibrant feather that I was about to pin back into my hair, and I began to remember January’s performance…

This was our moment of redemption.

My bare feet slid across the stage, and my arms swayed to create abstract shapes that showcased the wonders of modern movement. It all happened so fast, and there wasn’t much time to overthink the steps that my body had instinctively began to do. I soared as high as I possibly could, and I felt like I was really able to live in the moment this time. Just like that, it all ended. Looking out into the audience, the six of us stood together and bowed our heads. The applause filled the theater, and our hearts filled with relief; we did it!

It was honor to perform with this incredibly talented group of dancers, and I am so thankful that I was chosen to be a part of this piece. It was such a wonderful opportunity, and I feel like I have grown a lot as an artist by discovering new ways to move. This piece has also inspired my own choreography because I was able to see how unusual movements develop into something truly amazing. Overall, I really loved this dance, and I hope that I have more opportunities to work with brilliant minds like the choreographer behind “Flight.” Thanks for everything!

Brand New Smile!

bracesoff

After two years, my treatment is finally complete, and I got a brand new smile that is even bigger than the last. As annoying as braces were, the process actually went much faster than I expected, and I cannot believe that it is finally over. I clearly remember the day that I walked into the orthodontist’s office for the very first time and learned that I had to get multiple teeth extracted before I could even begin my treatment. I remember the fear that overwhelmed me as I sat in the dentist’s office as I mentally prepared myself to get all four teeth pulled on the same day. I also remember awkwardly glancing at my new silver brackets knowing that I had twenty-two months before I saw my teeth again. Looking back, it was quite an adventure to get where I am now, but I am so thankful for every step because the result is drastic. I am so happy with this brand new smile, and I cannot thank my parents enough for all that they have done for me throughout this entire experience. Now, I just have to keep up with my retainer and wear it (I WILL!)

I just thought I would share this exciting news, and I hope that you are all having a great weekend! 🙂

Catching Up

I hope that you all had a great week and a blessed Ash Wednesday! I apologize for my lack of posting/reading, but I should be able to get back on track now. Midterm week finally arrived which meant extra coffee and cram-study sessions for me… That pretty much explains why I have been absent for the past few days.

_____________________________

I went to an early mass this year for Ash Wednesday because it was the only possibility for me, so I wore ashes on my forehead all day. I was shocked by the amount of confused faces that passed me in the hallways at school, and I actually had multiple people tell me that I had something on my head. It was an interesting day, but I was not embarrassed. I used these encounters as a way to educate others and help them understand the purpose of the ashes.

“We can feel a little funny with ashes on our foreheads, but for Catholics, that is how we mark the start of Lent. Ashes don’t say we’re holy. They say we’re sinners. They don’t say we’re perfect, only that we’re willing to try. They don’t say we’re models of religiosity, but they do say we belong.”

~Sr. Mary Ann Walsh, RSM

Next weekend, we will bring “Flight” back to the stage, so be sure to keep an eye out for that post! I also just want to take a second to thank all of my loyal readers who continuously read/comment on my posts. You are all so positive and encouraging, so I will not desert this internet space anytime soon (despite occasional inactivity). You are all amazing, and I cannot thank you enough for that. Now, go be awesome!

My Survival Kit

incomingwave

Lately, several people have asked me the same exact question, and I began to realize that this might make a really interesting blog post. People catch a glimpse of my overflowing list of of day-by-day tasks on my weekly planner and look at me wide-eyed…

“How do you do it all?”

My reply is always the same: “I don’t even know.” In reality, however, I guess there really is a method to manage this madness, but it is not easy! I will be completely honest and tell you that there have been many nights that I have gotten under four hours of sleep as deadlines crept up faster than expected, so I don’t want you to get the impression that I have mastered these strategies because that is far from the truth. For the most part, however, I think this survival kit has really been the reason that I have been able to “do it all,” so I thought it might be neat to share with you.

1: Staying Organized:

My agenda/weekly calendar is actually color coded so that I can quickly see the homework load for each class. I also write down the important projects, papers, quizzes, and exams for that week in a black pen and highlight it in bright yellow so that I don’t accidentally miss them or forget to study. My friends think I am a bit crazy, but I actually color code my notes as well by the units or lectures.

2: Managing Time:

I always go to the campus library at least 30 min (sometimes even an hour) before my class begins to get a head start on homework for that day. I use every free moment that I have to get things done, so I frequently work Friday nights or even weekends as well. Time management is extremely important, so use extra time to your advantage!

3: Routine:

I also think following a routine helps me a lot because my body has gotten use to the wake/sleep times. This doesn’t mean that I am never tired, but it just means that I don’t feel like a walking zombie everyday because my body has gotten into a relatively consistent schedule.

4: Support:

Family and friends have significantly influenced me to keep working hard because I know they believe in me. This ultimately helps me believe in myself too, and it really does feel good to have someone there to encourage me through difficult times with a “you can do it!” attitude.

I also wanted to let you all know that I am scheduled to get my braces off on March 15!!!

I hope that you enjoyed this post, and thanks for reading!

How do YOU manage your schedule? Would you like to know my tips for studying late at night without getting tired? What was it like to get your braces off?

Something about 17…

17th

Now, it is official. I had been anticipating this day for weeks, so I am very happy that I can finally say that I am seventeen years old. As much as I don’t want my childhood to end, this is a super exciting milestone because it is the perfect balance between the youth of sweet sixteen and the maturity of adulthood. I was literally counting down the days, and I can’t even tell you how happy I am that it is finally here. Some people are still confused why this is such a big deal for me, and I honestly don’t exactly know either. There is just something about 17…

Confetti flew as I made a wish, blew out the candles, got a little wild, and turned another year older. I had a fantastic party on Saturday, and I was so thankful to celebrate with everyone. I even got a super cute cup that made me feel extra special (thanks, mom). I had a blast, and I will never forget that one moment where everything was perfect. I looked around the table at all of the smiling faces, and I remember wishing the clock would freeze at that exact moment in time. Family and friends were all gathered together, and I just wanted it to last forever… Every single one of those amazing people are so special to me, and I don’t think I could ever fully explain how much they have changed my life. My heart is so full, and I can’t thank everyone enough for everything.

I also want to make it very clear that I was not drinking under age, and soda was the only thing that filled that glass. I am not that bad you guys!

ANYWAYS, Cheers to 17!

Liebster Award and Nominations!

Thank you, Kaelyn, for giving me this awesome opportunity to participate in the Liebster Award 2019! It is so fun, and I am so happy to do this again. Readers, I have nominated eleven of you to participate (if you wish)… Keep scrolling to find out who!

Rules:

1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you for this award.

2. Answer 11 questions the blogger gave you.

3. Give 11 random facts about yourself.

4. Nominate 11 blogs and notify them.

4. Give them 11 questions to answer

Kaelyn’s Questions for Me:

1: Do you like cats?

I am actually allergic them… They are so cute though!

2: Do you like Sonic?

I can’t even remember the last time that I ate at Sonic, so I have no idea. 🙂

3: What is your favorite book of the Bible?

I am going to be 100% honest and tell you that I actually haven’t read the entire bible yet, so I can’t really choose a favorite.

4: If you could have a mystical creature for a pet, what would it be?

Definitely a Hippogriff!

5: Do you like to read? Why or why not?

Yes and no. I love reading during the summer months when school is out, but unbearable amounts of reading assignments/textbook pages have absolutely destroyed my passion for reading throughout the year.

6: What is your favorite subject at school?

This semester, I think my Marketing Management class is my favorite because it is so neat to learn about how businesses survive in such a competitive environment. It is really stretching my creativity as I learn about things most people don’t even think about!

7: What is your favorite shoe brand?

Right now, I am loving my Laredo western boots. I literally wear them every day…

8: Do you prefer salty or sweet foods?

I have a serious sweet tooth, so I would choose sweet over salty any day.

9: Chocolate milk or regular milk?

I have never really been a chocolate milk fan (surprisingly), so I usually prefer regular milk. HOT chocolate is another story though.

10: Rollerskating or iceskating?

Ice skating never gets old. 🙂

11: Icecream or frozen yogurt?

Hmm… I think I have to go with ice cream.
