Winter Begins!

I have a love/hate relationship with the winter season, but I always end up looking forward to it every year… The snow transforms our ordinary town into an enchanted world where young eyes sparkle with excitement. It brings families together for an adventurous day of snowman building and hot coco drinking by the fireplace. This season is so memorable and amazing. Wishing you all a beautiful first day of winter 2018-19!

The Nutcracker 2018

Last night was even more magical than I imagined as I finally got to perform the role that I had admired ever since I was a very young ballerina! I couldn’t have asked for the snow pas de deux to have gone any better for the shows, and I am so incredibly thankful for my snow king who supported me through it all. Despite the 14 hour-long day that was spent in the theater, this production generated so much positive energy within me, and I really wish that I could rewind the clock to do it again. Even after I came offstage, I could not stop smiling as the sound of applause filled my heart with so much happiness. However, the curtain has officially closed for the Nutcracker, but we will be back in the theater in a month for our production of Alice in Wonderland. I heard that casting will be announced within the next week, so be sure to keep an eye out for it! πŸ™‚

I hope that you all had a fantastic weekend!

Enjoy the Ride

“Life is a roller coaster. You can either scream every time you hit a bump or you can throw your hands up in the air and enjoy it.”

~Unknown

After a hectic road to get here, I am so pleased with how the performance turned out last night. I choreographed two separate dances within an incredibly short time span, and they both turned out so much better than I had ever imagined. I was faced with many challenges and issues that caused me to completely rework my initial vision, but I quickly recovered and my dancers pulled off an exceptional performance. I danced a few ballet variations and contemporary group pieces as well, and I am content with them. Of course, they were definitely not perfect, but it made me absolutely elated to have been approached by audience members after the show. It makes me so glad to know that they enjoyed witnessing my contribution to this beautiful art. I always remember how fortunate I am to dance under those lights, and I thank The Lord for giving me the opportunity and ability to do what I do.

Dance.

Honored

Despite all of the stress and pain that lies behind the curtain, it was such an honor to bring Swan Lake to that stage tonight… This is one of my favorite ballets to watch, and it makes me so grateful to be a part of it. I am beyond thankful to have been cast as one of the four swans, because this is an opportunity that I may never get to have again. I am so happy that I am able to perform this weekend and do what I love with all of these wonderful people… It doesn’t get much better than this.

Snow Queen

The feeling you get when everyone is watching you is unbelievable…

The feeling you get when you guide the audience through your adventure on an icy tale is indescribable.

The feeling you get when you take a bow as the principle dancer is absolutely incredible,

but the feeling you get when that curtain goes down for the very last time is beyond words.

I don’t even have words that come close to expressing how awesome it felt to dance Gerda. Ever since I was a little girl, it was my dream to land a leading role in a ballet, but I never thought that this dream would come true when it did. Through it all, my friends are the real reason that I was able to pull off a great weekend. From the second the cast list came out to my final bow, they were all there cheering me on… They gave me the strength and confidence that I never thought I had. This experience was better than I had ever imagined, and I will never forget Snow Queen 2017.

ARRIVED!

stagethinking

The weekend, that I have been anxiously waiting for, has finally arrived. It is going to be an incredibly busy next few days!

Tonight, we are performing one 8pm show on top of a 5pm dress rehearsal… Tomorrow, we will have three shows on top of ANOTHER dress rehearsal… At times like these, I am so thankful to be double casted! My friend and I switch back and forth between Gerda and corps de ballet roles. I love having the opportunity to portray so many unique characters in a single weekend (sweet & shy, icy & evil, graceful & comforting, etc.)!

Wish me luck everyone!!

Hopefully, our production of Snow Queen will turn out “nice”. πŸ˜‰

Night of Variations & Beauty and The Beast…

The applause rained halfway through my variation on Friday night… By the time I finished, I had the biggest smile plastered on my face; I significantly surprised myself. The variation that I chose was a huge challenge, and it was a great accomplishment to prove to myself that I CAN DO IT! People who have seen me dance know that I am not known for my flexibility (one of my biggest challenges), I am known for my fast footwork, cleanliness, and technique. It was definitely one of the fastest variations that I have ever attempted, but I am so proud to have done it! In the end, it was so encouraging to have been told that I was a “fireball” and “firecracker” by multiple peers. All in all, it was an beautiful performance, and I really enjoyed watching my friends dance so gracefully.

The Beauty and the Beast performances also went well! All of us felt very proud, and it was so rewarding to have performed dances that we finished only two days before the show! This weekend truly proved to us ALL that we are capable of so much more than we think! Thank you all so much for all of the support and encouragement. You are the best! πŸ™‚

To Perform…

stage

Some performances are an incredible blessing to be apart of, and you soak up each ray of the bright shining lights. You feel the music guide your body, as you move the audience with your emotion and presence. Then, the curtain goes down, and your work is complete; you feel a faint tear roll down your cheek, as you dread the thought of the theater doors closing…

Other times, the choreography ravages your brain and the stress becomes intolerable. You overthink the counts and movements so much that everything feels uneasy and unnatural. At that point, you are looking forward to watching that curtain go down so that you can finally wipe the sweat off of your brow and collapse on the dance-beaten stage…

-Each individual performance brings it’s own journey and it’s own challenges. It is simply how you handle those challenges, that define the experience that you will have… ENJOY IT!! You have rehearsed. You have prepared. You are ready. You may not feel completely confident, but trust GOD and PERFORM. Show the audience,Β why you dance.Β

(Note to self before the festival this weekend. Wish me luck!)

Is A Blog Right 4 You?

today
Backstage shot of me in Coppelia.

Lately, I have received many questions about blogging by quite a bit of people! Therefore, I thought that it might be beneficial to post my top four most frequently asked questions to help you find out if a blog is right for you… I just want to note that I have answered these questions based off of MY experience and MY opinions; not everyone will agree with my responses, and that is okay!! If you are a blogger or have experience with blogging, feel welcome to place your personal opinions/ answers in the comment section.

1- I really want to begin a blog, but I just don’t have much time to post.

This is a common misconception that stops a lot of people from starting a blog. Let me just get straight to the point, YOU DON’T HAVE TO POST EVERYDAY! In fact, I know some great bloggers that only post once a week, only on weekends, or even just once a month! It is your blog and your schedule, so you can do whatever works best for you!! πŸ™‚

2-I am new to blogging, but I can’t ever seem to come up with some good post ideas…

To be honest, I sometimes have trouble coming up with interesting things to write about too! Luckily, the internet has saved me from this blank phase many times, and there are multiple websites that list 100+ great blog post ideas… My secret is out, can you keep it?

3-I am not good at writing, so I feel like I would be a terrible blogger…

Well, I have to admit that I was not (and still am not) very good at writing. No one expects you to be 100% flawless; it isn’t reality. Secondly, writing and practicing regularly can actually help you improve your writing skills! So, why wouldn’t you want to start a blog?

4- What is the best advice that you have for new bloggers?

The best advice that I can give is to just always be aware of the publicity of your blog and always be very cautious about what you post; you never know who may be on the other side of the screen… This isn’t to discourage you, but it is important to always keep this in mind! Lastly, don’t become overly obsessed with the number of followers and likes that you receive. It is true that you will go through a constant cycle of followers, and you may not get a lot of likes on some posts. However, you are initially blogging for YOU! Don’t let the number of likes that you receive dictate what you post about! Enjoy blogging and post about what you want to, whether it is interesting or not! πŸ™‚ Remember to HAVE FUN!!

I hope that this Q & A post helped cleared up some confusion about blogging, and maybe even inspired you to start your own! Let me know if you have any other questions that I have not answered. Thanks for reading!
