Despite all of the stress and pain that lies behind the curtain, it was such an honor to bring Swan Lake to that stage tonight… This is one of my favorite ballets to watch, and it makes me so grateful to be a part of it. I am beyond thankful to have been cast as one of the four swans, because this is an opportunity that I may never get to have again. I am so happy that I am able to perform this weekend and do what I love with all of these wonderful people… It doesn’t get much better than this.
Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, a new contemporary work by a guest choreographer, as well as trying to recall our modern piece from the previous season (originally set for the college project) has definitely kept us incredibly busy this past week! Now that our long Christmas break is approaching, we are rehearsing long hours to try and put our shows together on time. We will be back onstage very shortly after we return!
*Speaking of Sleeping Beauty, I don’t think that I have revealed the casting yet. I am very pleased to announce that a very good friend of mine will be dancing as Aurora in this magical February production! I am so excited to watch her perform this role and shine her talent under that spotlight. I received the Canary Fairy, peasant corps de ballet, and waltz corps de ballet. There is so much to do, but I am super excited to see this ballet come together. I think that it is going to be a great show!
As of right now, I think I am going to sit back and enjoy this weekend… Where is my hot chocolate and fuzzy blanket? 🙂 The countdown to Christmas has finally begun.
The feeling you get when everyone is watching you is unbelievable…
The feeling you get when you guide the audience through your adventure on an icy tale is indescribable.
The feeling you get when you take a bow as the principle dancer is absolutely incredible,
but the feeling you get when that curtain goes down for the very last time is beyond words.
I don’t even have words that come close to expressing how awesome it felt to dance Gerda. Ever since I was a little girl, it was my dream to land a leading role in a ballet, but I never thought that this dream would come true when it did. Through it all, my friends are the real reason that I was able to pull off a great weekend. From the second the cast list came out to my final bow, they were all there cheering me on… They gave me the strength and confidence that I never thought I had. This experience was better than I had ever imagined, and I will never forget Snow Queen 2017.
Believe it or not, someone had something positive to say to me every day this week. From Monday afternoon straight through Friday, my entire week was lit up with positivity. I could not be more thankful for the supportive environment that surrounds me each and everyday, and I am so blessed to have the ability to dance with such a beautiful community of dancers; I can’t wait to see how far they will go.
You all are amazing. Thank you for giving me such an great week! 🙂
In continuation of my previous post:
As promised, here is the poem that I have submitted to the America Library of Poetry Contest!! 🙂
Through The Eyes
Through the eyes of a dancer,
the movements unfold,
telling you stories that have never been told…
Through the eyes of a writer,
you read deep into the soul,
feeling the pages of secrets slowly unroll.
Through the eyes of a ballerina,
you experience the truth
about all of the days of work that we spend of our youth
Through the eyes of an artist,
the vibrant canvas unwinds
as all of the shapes and colors combine…
When you look into the eyes of me,
tell me… What do YOU see?
For, this is all that I am and ever hope to be…
What do you think???? Do you have any ideas that would have made this even better? I would love to hear your input in the comments section.
“Life is not a dress rehearsal. The curtain is up and your on, so get out there & give it your best shot.”
We are in the theater late tonight rehearsing for our two performances on Friday.
I have worked extremely hard throughout these past four weeks, so I hope that I am truly able to show my parents how much I have learned and grown. I am hoping that they will see a new and improved dancer, who has transformed into something better than before…
I am going to get out there on that stage and do my absolute best for my family, for my director back home, the director of this intensive, and most of all… for myself. 🙂 Goodnight everyone.
7-6-5-4-THREE DAYS until I leave for my summer intensive program away from home! I will be dancing with outstanding teachers, incredible dancers, and unbelievable choreographers while improving my skills. I am so blessed to have been given this opportunity, and I am really looking forward sharing my experiences with you! Get ready for some serious dancing, Maysa Rose!
