Midweek Madness

rehearse

One heck of a lot of work. Two dead pairs of pointe shoes. Three full show run throughs… These last three days have taken a lot of effort to plow through, and we are mentally preparing ourselves to be back in the theater Friday night.

This has been our week so far:

One hour we are drowning in the lake of countless other swans, and the next, we are royally waltzing across the courtroom to greet Princess Aurora. Then, we face an immediate tempo change to rehearse our guest choreographed modern pieces. Every now and then, we are given spare time in an open studio to practice understudied roles or to go over choreography that occasionally slips the brain.

*We have one day left in the studio… Am I the only one who finds that insane?

Swan Lake… Flying Fast

swan lake2

It is absolutely crazy to look at the calendar and be able to say,

Swan lake will be onstage exactly two weeks from today…

Time has managed to escape so quickly, and we are racing the clock to finish all of our choreography before our upcoming performances. With all of the snow and ice taking away precious days of work, we have officially reached crunch time. It is going to be a chaotic next two weeks…

3 interesting things about me:

1) I love to travel, and by the end of summer I will have been to 20 states.

2) I have been deep sea fishing, but I quickly learned that I get very sea sick.

3) I have been stung by a jellyfish when we were visiting Key West one summer… I was pretty young, so I remember screaming to my mother and telling her “a puffer fish got me”.

I frequently find that many of my followers do not like to be nominated for awards/tags. Therefore, I nominate any of my readers who would like to participate! ๐Ÿ™‚ Please feel completely free to attach your post in the comments section so that others can read your post.

5 Questions for me:

  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

In 5 years, I hope to be in a professional ballet company. I hope that all of my intense training in this professional trainee program will get me where I really want to be… Dancing full time as a company member.

  • What is your favourite place on earth?

I absolutely LOVE the beach. I visit the beach as often as my schedule will allow, and I enjoy every second of the salty midst, the sand between my toes, and the fresh ocean breeze…

  • Why is your passion your passion?

I have a special connection with ballet… I am not even sure how to describe why it is myย  passion, but I just feel like it is what I am meant to do. I feel like it is a part of me, and I couldn’t see myself ever being the same without it.

  • Where (a place) does your heart draw you to?

THE THEATER!! I absolutely love dancing on that stage, and my heart leaps whenever I hear the audience roar. As much as I perform, it never gets old. Every performance brings something new, and I don’t think that I will ever get tired of it.

  • What is the wildest dream you ever dreamed?

Quite honestly, I am not sure!

5 Questions for my participants:

  1. What is the story behind your blog name?
  2. Where is your dream travel destination?
  3. Do you prefer the mountains or the ocean? Why?
  4. Would you rather live in the city with skyscrapers and busy streets or the country-side with corn fields and cattle?
  5. Food choices: Sweet VS. Sour. What would you choose?

ARRIVED!

stagethinking

The weekend, that I have been anxiously waiting for, has finally arrived. It is going to be an incredibly busy next few days!

Tonight, we are performing one 8pm show on top of a 5pm dress rehearsal… Tomorrow, we will have three shows on top of ANOTHER dress rehearsal… At times like these, I am so thankful to be double casted! My friend and I switch back and forth between Gerda and corps de ballet roles. I love having the opportunity to portray so many unique characters in a single weekend (sweet & shy, icy & evil, graceful & comforting, etc.)!

Wish me luck everyone!!

Hopefully, our production of Snow Queen will turn out “nice”. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Studio Scoop

Are you ready for the latest update on Snow Queen??

After a full day of rehearsals yesterday, we are officially 98% completed with the entire ballet. Knowing that we will be in the theater in less than two weeks is quite nerve wracking, so we are all taking advantage of every rehearsal that we can get (there aren’t many left!)

Most ordinary people don’t realize how many hours of hard work goes into a performance, and they don’t know how much sweat we wear to give them that magical experience. Every step… every breath… every lift… every pair of pointe shoes… Despite of it all, it is an experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world. I enjoy every moment that I have to dance this incredible art form, because it doesn’t last forever. Even though our bodies eventually stop loving ballet, the love in our hearts lasts a lifetime…

30 Days

shadow

TODAY…. I have 30 days until my premier of Snow Queen.

Mentally, I am ready to step onto that stage right now to feel the lights make my heart glow, unleashing everlasting rays of happiness and joy that sends the audience up out of their seats. I hope to give the audience the Christmas experience that they came for and become a memorable part of their Christmas celebration. ๐Ÿ™‚ Physically, however, my brain is overflowing with steps and my muscles are slowly transforming into noodle-like material, replacing the instrumental quality that use to guide my dancing. Despite of all of the rehearsal time, we still have tons of dances that need to be finished/started! It is 30 days away, and the countdown has begun. 30 days… Just 30 days…

Week 4 Performance

me

Life is not a dress rehearsal. The curtain is up and your on, so get out there & give it your best shot.”

~Unknown

We are in the theater late tonight rehearsing for our two performances on Friday.

I have worked extremely hard throughout these past four weeks, so I hope that I am truly able to show my parents how much I have learned and grown. I am hoping that they will see a new and improved dancer, who has transformed into something better than before…

I am going to get out there on that stage and do my absolute best for my family, for my director back home, the director of this intensive, and most of all… for myself. ๐Ÿ™‚ Goodnight everyone.

7-6-5-4-THREE DAYS!

arabesque

7-6-5-4-THREE DAYS until I leave for my summer intensive program away from home! I will be dancing with outstanding teachers, incredible dancers, and unbelievable choreographers while improving my skills. I am so blessed to have been given this opportunity, and I am really looking forward sharing my experiences with you! Get ready for some serious dancing, Maysa Rose!

NYC & ABT

ABT

I know that I haven’t posted in over a week, but I promise that I DID NOT FORGET ABOUT YOU GUYS! ๐Ÿ™‚ Things have been kind of crazy lately, and I have been out of town. The last time I posted was on an airplane heading up to visit family. After the much-needed family time, I flew back home for a day to pack and get ready to join my dad on a business trip on Tuesday! I am so thankful to have been given this incredible opportunity to experience New York City, and I am so lucky to have been able to witness Misty Copeland IN PERSON… Last night, I watched the American Ballet Theatre perform Le Corsaire! It was a huge night for me, and I will remember it forever… I fly back home tomorrow, so I am going to enjoy as much of this city as I can before I leave. Wishing you all the best! Thanks for reading. ๐Ÿ™‚

*In the picture above, you can see just how big the theater truly is… I am so insignificant, next to the building as high as the stars within it.

Once More…

dream

Recently, I have submitted a poem to the National Student Poetry Contest.ย  The chances of me winning are extremely low, but I decided to participate for my joy of writing. I will be sharing my poem with everyone soon, along with a post about my past that I finally have the strength to tell. This will all be up shortly after this weekend…

This Friday, I will be performing the Night of Variations Showcase. Then, I will be dancing in the Beauty and the Beast production this weekend. We are returning to the theater, once more. ๐Ÿ™‚
