On The Edge: dance video

contemporarysolo

Eccentric movements return to my memory as I flashback to the mixed repertoire showcase of May… I was not lying when I said that I would share a video of myself dancing, and I know that several of you really wanted to see “On The Edge.” I choreographed this contemporary ballet solo last season, and I am so thankful that I was able to snag a video of dress rehearsal. The last six seconds did get cut out, and the stage lighting made a small section a little blurry. Despite the minor complications with technology, I am still willing to perform for you! This is the first time that I have ever publicly released a video of my dancing. I am nowhere near perfect, but I thought it would be fun to switch things up a bit. Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

**Special thanks to my friend for taking the video! I really appreciate it!

Merry Christmas 2018!

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the LORD.”

~Luke 2:10-11

Happy Holidays to all of my dear readers!

SURPRISE! After a few attempts, my friends and I finally (somewhat) built a human Christmas tree in the second picture. The peak of the tree is clearly missing, but I am honestly just happy that none of us got hurt.
Hopefully you are able to spend the day with loved ones and reunite with distant friends and family, but no matter how you choose to celebrate, I just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Velvet

“And I’m fallin’… fallin’ for you hard. Let’s slow down; this is just the start. When you hold me, I can’t sing the blues. Like velvet on my fingertips, you sure are smooth”

Lyrics: Velvet by Sofia Caterina

Hey everyone! My friend just released her very own song a few months ago. Believe it or not, Velvet has already received over 30k streams on Spotify and topped 17k views on her YouTube audio track. It would be great if you guys could help promote this rising star by re-blogging this post, sharing it with your friends, and posting it on your personal sites. It would be very appreciated if the WordPress community could help get her more publicity… Be sure to give this song a listen!

Music…

clouds

Music… The mood booster that always ends your day on a good ‘note’…. The influence of your highly off-pitch voice screaming lyrics into your imaginary microphone. You think you are having a great time until you realize all of the windows of your house are open and all of your neighbors can hear you *cough*. ANYWAY, I wanted to dedicate this post to all of those music lovers out there who are always searching for new songs… Enjoy!

Safe Haven (Hillary Scott)

Dear No One (Tori Kelly)

Poetry (Wrabel)

Beautiful Like You (Lee DeWyze)

*Shout out to the autumn daydreamer for being the inspiration for this post!

Snowy Saturday

Today, we have over a foot of snow!

It is a pain, but it is so pretty though.

With snow up to my knees,

we don’t have many days like these.

When the flurrying powder covers everything in white,

I am finally experiencing the Christmas delight.

Snowman creating.

Cookie baking.

This is the best Christmas in the making.

~Maysa

It has been a snowy Saturday morning, as the snow continues to fall from the heavens. We now have over a foot of snow on the ground, and we are watching that number continue to grow.

It is truly a Marshmallow world, you guys. Stay warm and safe this magical weekend! 🙂

Snow Queen Casting!!!!!

pointeshoes

I am extremely humbled to share that I have received a principal role in this year’s Christmas production… I will be portraying a girl who looses her brother to the almighty Snow Queen and goes on a frozen adventure to return him home. I Am Gerda. This will be my very first main role in a ballet, so I am incredibly honored to have been trusted with this responsibility.

*This weekend, you will find me in front of the television watching the movie and getting a better understanding of the plot… I know that the ballet may change a bit, but at least I will have the general idea. To be completely honest with you, I have never heard of the Snow Queen until now, so I think that it will be helpful to have at least SOME background knowledge (whether it is 100% accurate or not). Aside from that, I think that it is going to be neat to see how the movie and ballet will differ… Have a great weekend!

“The College Project”

stage

The leaves blew across the illuminated stage, making our skirts flow in the soft breeze. I glanced at the glowing red recorder in the “audience” that was filming our every move. A flat 10 minutes of dancing flew by, drifting off with the leaves. All that was left on the stage were sweet sounds of nature, and a peaceful pair of pointe shoes left in the spotlight.
We came. We danced. We performed. The College Project has been completed.

Blog Award!!!

artsy

I am pleased to announce that I have been nominated for the Liebster Blog Award by Ballet Basics on https://ballet182.wordpress.com/

1: When/why did you start blogging?

I actually began this blog in 2013, but I haven’t been actively blogging for that long. I took a break from posting for almost two full years before I came back around mid-2015. To be honest, I don’t really remember why I FIRST started blogging…

2: What is your favorite thing to do?

Dance!! I love being able to express myself through my movements, and the power/ joy that I feel when I am onstage is not even explainable! It is the most incredible feeling, and nothing else makes me feel the way that I do when I perform.

3: If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be?

I have always thought Paris would be an incredible place to visit…

4: Who inspires you?

New York City Ballet’s Ashley Bouder!!!!!!

6: What is your favorite color?

PURPLE!!! 🙂

7: If you could be anyone for one day who would it be?

I think that it would be cool to step into Sara Lane’s shoes for the day, literally. 😉 I think that it would be pretty amazing to dance as a soloist for the American Ballet Theatre. She is such an inspiring dancer, and I would love to be her for the day.

8: Are you a morning or night person?

I would definitely say that I am a morning person, (once I pull myself up out of bed and resist that snooze button).

9: Favorite vacation?

Visiting Key West, Florida has to be one of my most favorite vacations!!

10: Most exciting moment in your life?

One of the most exciting moments in my life was the day that I held my baby sister for the very first time…

11: What scares you the most?

I think one of my biggest fears is something bad happening to me or someone I love. I hope that my loved ones continue to be happy and healthy for years to come. 🙂
